AI Basics for Real Estate Agents
A simple Claude setup that helps you save time, follow up more consistently, and complete real work without feeling overwhelmed.
You do not need to be comfortable with technology. You do not need to understand AI. You just need to start in the right place.
If you already use ChatGPT, you can keep using it. This guide starts with Claude because the goal is to move beyond random questions and begin creating repeatable ways to complete work.

Claude is an AI assistant created by Anthropic. It can help you write and improve client communication, prepare for appointments, follow up with real estate leads, organize information, and create repeatable business processes.
Claude should not replace your judgment. It should help you complete work you already need to do.
Set up Claude from your laptop
- 1Open Google Chrome.
- 2Go to claude.com/download.
- 3Click the download button for your computer.
- 4Open the downloaded file.
- 5Follow the instructions to install Claude.
- 6Open the Claude app.
- 7Click Sign In or create a free account.
- 8Use the email address you normally use for your real estate business.
Stop there. You completed the first step.

You do not need the most expensive plan to start. You only need to know what each one gives you so you can pick the smallest plan that fits the work you actually want to do.
Free plan
Good for learning. You can chat with Claude and try the prompts in this guide. Some features, including Claude in Chrome, are not included.
Paid plan such as Pro
This is where Projects, longer conversations, and the Chrome extension become comfortable to use every day.
- 1Open the Claude app or go to claude.ai.
- 2Click your name or initials in the bottom left corner.
- 3Click Settings, then look for the plan or billing section.
- 4Start on the free plan if you are only learning this week.
- 5Upgrade when you are ready for Projects and Claude in Chrome, which are used in the later lessons.
You can keep going through this guide on the free plan. Come back and upgrade when the paid features are worth it to you.

Random chats make Claude start over every time. A Project gives Claude one place to keep the instructions and conversations connected to your real estate business.
- 1Open Claude on your laptop.
- 2Click Projects in the left sidebar.
- 3Click New Project in the top right.
- 4Name the Project "My Real Estate Business".
- 5In the description box, type "A place to help me run and grow my real estate business."
- 6Click Create Project.
Do not upload anything yet. Stop there. You created your first AI Project.

Claude gives you better answers when it knows who you are and who you serve. You only have to tell it once inside your Project.
- 1Open My Real Estate Business.
- 2Click Set Project Instructions on the right side of the page.
- 3Copy the instructions below.
- 4Replace the words inside the brackets with your information. For example, change the bracketed city and state to Richmond, Virginia and the bracketed buyer or seller phrase to home buyers and sellers.
- 5Click Save Instructions.
I am a real estate agent serving [YOUR CITY AND STATE]. I help [HOME BUYERS, HOME SELLERS, OR BOTH]. Explain things to me in simple language. Ask me one question at a time when you need more information. Do not make up details about me or my business.
Claude can now use these instructions every time you work inside this Project.

You do not need to learn how to write complicated prompts. Open a new chat inside My Real Estate Business and paste the prompt below.
I have a real estate lead I need to follow up with. Ask me five questions, one at a time, so you can write a short text message that sounds like me and gives this person a useful reason to respond. Do not write the message until you have asked all five questions.
Answer each question Claude asks. Read the message Claude creates. Do not send it until you have checked every detail and made sure it sounds like you.
You just used AI to complete real work.

Claude in Chrome
Use the Chrome extension when you want Claude beside you while you are working inside a website.
Mobile app
Use this to dictate ideas, capture information, or ask a quick question between appointments.
Claude.ai
Use the website when you need to access Claude from a browser.
Only install the official Claude apps and extensions published by Anthropic.
You already installed the desktop app in Lesson 1. Use the button below to add Claude to Chrome. For your phone, search for Claude in your phone's app store. For the browser, go to claude.ai.
Claude in Chrome requires a paid Claude plan such as Pro. If you are on the free plan, skip this for now and come back to it later.

Installing it is not the same as using it. Pin it once, then open it on the pages where you already do your work.
Pin it so you can find it
- 1Open Google Chrome.
- 2Click the puzzle piece icon in the top right corner.
- 3Find Claude in the list.
- 4Click the pin icon next to Claude so it stays visible in your toolbar.
Use it on a real page
- 1Open a page you actually work in, such as a listing, a long email, or a contract you are reading.
- 2Click the Claude icon in your toolbar to open the side panel.
- 3Ask Claude about what is on the page in plain language.
- 4Read what Claude gives you and correct anything that is not right before you use it.
Read this page and give me a short summary in plain language. Then list anything I should double check before I talk to my client about it. Do not add any information that is not on the page.
The extension only sees the page you have open. Close the panel when you are working with information you do not want to share.

If you already like ChatGPT, you can keep using it. ChatGPT has a Chrome extension too, and it works the same way Claude in Chrome does.
- 1Open Google Chrome.
- 2Go to the Chrome Web Store using the button below.
- 3Click Add to Chrome and confirm.
- 4Click the puzzle piece icon in the top right corner, then pin ChatGPT to your toolbar.
- 5Sign in with the account you already use for ChatGPT.
Only install the official ChatGPT extension published by OpenAI. You do not need both extensions. Keep the one you reach for most.

I am a real estate agent who is new to Claude. Teach me how to use Claude by helping me complete one simple task from my real estate business. First, ask me what part of my business takes too much time. Ask one question at a time. Keep every instruction short and practical. Show me one step, wait for me to complete it, and then give me the next step. Do not assume I know where any buttons are.
Answer Claude's questions. You do not need to know the correct words or write a complicated prompt. Tell Claude what you want to accomplish and let it ask for the missing information.

Help me create a list of the repetitive, delayed, or frustrating work in my real estate business. Ask me ten questions, one at a time, about lead generation, follow-up, clients, listings, transactions, marketing, email, meetings, and administration. After the tenth answer, organize my tasks into three groups: tasks AI may help me complete, tasks AI may help me prepare, and tasks that still require my personal judgment.
Do not decide whether Claude can do each task before creating the list. The list will show you where AI may save you the most time.
